Design and Development
Our designers combine the mathematical ideal of the ball
with its real physical behavior – through the
interplay of thinking, simulation, and experimentation. In-depth
material knowledge and decades of experience form the
foundation.
However, only in combination with seals, adjustment components,
and a robust housing does a ball valve emerge that convinces worldwide:
dynamic, precise, and reliable in flow management.
Decades of development have resulted in a modular system
that enables customer-specific solutions and innovative
concepts – supported by the ingenuity of our
employees and state-of-the-art CAD systems.

Perfect function begins with perfect manufacturing. That is why our ball valves are produced in a facility that combines state-of-the-art technologies with genuine manufacturing expertise.
CNC machining centers and automated processes ensure efficiency and repeatability. However, the decisive factor is the human element: experience, craftsmanship, and a trained eye for every detail.
Because despite all series production competence, every von Scheven ball valve remains the result of personal responsibility – carefully assembled, tested, and approved.

Zero defects is our standard. Precise 3D coordinate measurements, careful inspections, and consistent monitoring of all manufacturing and assembly parameters ensure the highest accuracy – including for supplied components.
Where deviations become visible, improvements emerge. Because every insight makes our products even more precise.
At the end stands the 100% pressure test. Only when function and tightness are clearly confirmed does a von Scheven ball valve leave our facility.

History

At the time of our founding in 1937, work underground was still done with pneumatic hammers. Valves were needed to regulate the necessary compressed air, as well as for water management. And these were supplied for decades by companies from Sprockhövel. von Scheven was one of them.
It is thanks to the foresight of our founder Rudolf von Scheven that we focused early on the synthesis of new plastics for dimensionally stable seals and thus developed the first ball valves. Initially for traditional applications, but then, especially with the introduction of hydraulics underground, for more complex tasks with significantly higher pressures. And the special feature of full bore in the open position. The reliability of this innovative, robust shut-off technology quickly became known in other industries as well. This initiated the expansion to the current size of 6,000 m² of administration and production space.

1937
Founding in Sprockhövel
The company von Scheven was founded in 1937 by Rudolf von Scheven in Sprockhövel, the historic center of Ruhr coal mining. From the beginning, the company operated as a supplier to the German hard coal industry, producing valves for compressed air lines in underground mining.
1950
Pioneering Work in Ball Valve Development
As early as 1950, von Scheven developed the first soft-sealing ball valves. The company was thus among the first ball valve manufacturers and laid the foundation for a product line that remains successful to this day in the industrial valve sector.
1950s
Growth and Expansion
As a result of continuous growth, the production facilities were expanded in the 1950s through additional manufacturing halls on the neighboring property.
1968
Entry of the Second Generation
With the entry of Dipl.-Ing. Volker Wullstein – the son-in-law of the company founder – into management, the second generation of company leadership began.
1970s
Strategic Realignment
von Scheven responded early to the decline of German hard coal mining. Since ball valves can be used across industries, the company successfully opened up new industrial sectors and developed into a versatile partner for industrial applications.
1980
Patented Safety Technology
In 1980, von Scheven developed the patented safety locking handle based on the principle “pull first, then turn.” This innovation reliably protects against vibrations and operating errors and set new standards for the safe operation of mining and industrial ball valves.
2004
Certification to DIN EN ISO 9001
Quality has always been the highest priority at von Scheven. As early as 1994, the quality management system was certified to DIN EN ISO 9001, a clear commitment to consistent quality assurance and process stability.
2004
Third Generation in Management
With Dr.-Ing. Mathias Wullstein, the third generation entered management and continues to lead the family business technologically and strategically.
2008
Expansion of the Company Site
Extensive expansion projects increased the site to over 6,000 m² of production and administration space today. This enabled von Scheven to create the conditions for further growth and modern manufacturing processes.
2012
75th Company Anniversary
The company celebrated its 75th anniversary together with approximately 60 employees as well as long-standing customers and business partners – a sign of sustainable cooperation and trust.
2020s
Into the Future Together with Hydrogen
With many years of experience in demanding applications, von Scheven has been supporting hydrogen projects for many years. In the course of the energy transition, hydrogen is gaining further importance as a storage, transport, and process gas. The proven solutions from von Scheven are used in electrolyzers, compressor systems, transport, and the safe storage of hydrogen, and have developed into a future-proof business field in the 2020s.
