Ball Valves for Maritime Applications
Maritime applications place particularly high demands on valves in terms of corrosion resistance, operational reliability, material selection, and design. Our ball valves are used in a wide range of maritime applications and are designed for both shipyard applications and installation on board ships.
Ball valves for maritime applications
Maritime applications place particularly high demands on valves in terms of corrosion resistance, operational reliability, material selection, and design. Our ball valves are used in a wide range of maritime applications and are designed for both shipyard applications and installation on board ships.

Areas of Application
In the maritime environment, we distinguish between two main areas of application:
Use in shipyards and shipyard halls
We equip numerous shipyards and their halls with ball valves, which are part of media, supply, and disposal systems there. The valves are used in both new construction and in outfitting and maintenance areas and must function reliably under industrial and sometimes maritime conditions. One example is the central storage of welding gases and their distribution in the shipyard hall.
Technical Design
The ball valves mentioned are available in nominal diameters from DN 25 to DN 250, and in cast steel versions up to DN 300.
In terms of design, the valves have a two-piece construction and are equipped with a soft-seated sealing system that ensures high tightness and defined switching behavior.
The ball valves feature an ISO flange design; simple and flexible connection of actuators is also possible.
Operation can be carried out either:
• manually, or
• with actuators, where the customer can choose between pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuators.
Use on board ships
In addition, our ball valves are used directly on ships. The range of applications is very diverse and includes, among others:
• Cruise ships
• Yachts
• Work and special-purpose vessels, e.g., oil recovery vessels or for environmental engineering tasks.
These ships are built and equipped in shipyards worldwide.
Application on cruise ships
On cruise ships in particular, our ball valves are used in piping systems for black water and grey water lines. In these sensitive systems, a secure shut-off function, high tightness, and reliable operation over long service lives are crucial.
Flanged ball valves from the following series are used here:
• KFK B – flanged ball valves made of ductile iron
• KFK C – flanged ball valves made of cast steel
• KFK D and EFK – flanged ball valves made of cast stainless steel 1.4408
Corrosion Protection and Coating
Depending on the location and environmental conditions, ball valves made of ductile iron or cast steel are provided with a suitable coating system. Both water-based and solvent-based paints are available. Since different corrosion protection classes must be considered in the maritime sector, the coating system is selected based on DIN EN ISO 12944. This ensures that the corrosion protection is optimally matched to the respective application – e.g., indoor areas, engine rooms, or adjacent maritime atmospheres.
Maritime Approvals
In close cooperation with leading maritime classification societies such as LR, BV, or DNV GL, we have our ball valves tested and certified according to customer specifications. In doing so, we rely on a network of high-performance material suppliers who provide tested and certified materials.
