Ball Valves for Mining
Underground mining places extremely high demands on valves regarding pressure resistance, functional reliability, robustness, and operability under confined installation conditions. Our ball valves are used worldwide in mining and cover a very wide range of applications – from standard functions to specially developed custom solutions.

Areas of Application in Mining
A central area of application for our ball valves is longwall mining. Here, they are used, among other things, in large-scale support systems, for example, in shields with extension heights up to 8.6 m. The ball valves are part of safety-critical hydraulic and supply systems.
Furthermore, our ball valves are used in:
• Longwall hydraulic systems
• Water and air circuits
• Supply lines
• Filter stations
• Isocyanate pumping stations
• Pumping stations
• Spraying valves for dust control
The media used include hydraulic fluids, water, compressed air, and isocyanates.
Custom Solution: 5/3-Way Ball Valve for High-Pressure Hydraulics
In addition to ball valves from our standard range, we have also developed customer-specific special solutions for mining. An outstanding example is the 5/3-way ball valve for demanding hydraulic applications.
This ball valve is used in a complex hydraulic system that comprises two separate pipeline networks:
• Working line: DN 20, operating pressure up to 350 bar
• High-pressure resetting line (HP Set): operating pressure up to 420 bar
Both lines are safely shut off with only one actuator, while automatic pressure relief of the consumer towards the tank occurs simultaneously.
In addition to the working position, a third switching position has been implemented in which all connections are safely shut off. This function is realized by a positive overlap in the ball and sealing system, reliably preventing unwanted flow.
The ball valve is flanged directly onto a manifold block. The housing is made of tempered stainless steel.
Standard Ball Valves for Mining
In addition to custom solutions, ball valves from our standard range are also used in mining. These include:
- Low and high-pressure block ball valves
- Versions made of steel and stainless steel
- For high-pressure applications, ball valves made of forged material, which are characterized by particularly high strength and fatigue resistance
These valves are selected according to the respective application and the medium used, and adapted to the required operating pressures and ambient conditions.
As a rule, these ball valves are equipped with the Steck-O program, which is established in mining. This enables convenient assembly and disassembly while ensuring high operational safety.
Safety and Operability Underground
To prevent unintentional switching of ball valves in confined installation situations underground, we have developed a safety locking handle. This prevents unintentional actuation of the valve and significantly contributes to operational safety – especially in areas with limited accessibility or increased hazard potential. A frequently required lockability can also be easily implemented with this.
